FAQ
The Basics
What is Jamm Jamm?
Jamm Jamm is the African super food company. We take the bold, soulful flavors of West Africa — the last great cuisine still missing from the American pantry — and put them in the everyday formats you already reach for. West African roots, New York hustle. Real ingredients, no preservatives, and flavor systems developed over hundreds of years.
What is West African Tomato Sauce?
It's our flagship sauce. A rich, smoky, slow-cooked tomato sauce built on the foundations of West African cooking. Out of the jar it works like any premium tomato sauce — but it tastes like nothing else on your shelf. Smoky paprika, slow-cooked onions, habanero, tomato, pepper, and olive oil. That's it. Bold African flavors, endless ways to cook.
Who created the recipe?
Every Jamm Jamm flavor is developed by James Beard Hall of Fame chef Pierre Thiam, and has been served to the world at our sister restaurant Teranga since 2019.
How To Use It
Is this only for West African cooking?
Not at all. It's your shortcut to authentic West African meals — think jollof rice, stews, and braises — but it's also just a really good tomato sauce. Use it anywhere you'd reach for one: pasta, pizza, shakshuka, soups, braised meats and fish, even eggs. Same jar, endless range.
How do I cook with it?
However you'd use any great tomato sauce — just expect a lot more flavor. Simmer it with rice for a quick jollof-style dish, braise chicken or fish in it, spoon it over pasta, build a stew, or crack the jar and eat it straight with warm bread. It's a shortcut to a deeply flavored meal in minutes. One 24 oz jar is about six servings.
Is it spicy?
It's got a subtle warmth, but we wouldn't call it spicy. We build the heat on real habanero, then round it out with smoky paprika and slow-cooked onions — so what you get is warmth and depth.
Why is there oil at the top of my jar? Is my sauce separated?
That's completely natural — and honestly, a good sign. What you're seeing is our olive oil rising to the top, exactly what real food does when there's nothing artificial holding it together. No preservatives, no emulsifiers, no stabilizers — just clean ingredients. A little separation is the clean label doing its job. Give the jar a good shake before you pour, and you're ready to cook.
Where can I taste it first?
At Teranga, our sister restaurant in Midtown Manhattan (601 Lexington Avenue) — one of NYC's top-rated West African dining rooms and a NY Times Critic's Pick. The flavors on that menu are the exact flavors in this jar. If you've eaten at Teranga, you already know what's coming.
Ingredients & Nutrition
What's in it?
Only whole-food ingredients: smoky paprika, slow-cooked onions, habanero, tomato, pepper, and olive oil. No preservatives, ever. We cook with olive oil, not seed oils or fillers, because a premium product should be premium all the way down.
Is it vegan and gluten-free?
Yes to both. 100% vegan, 100% gluten-free — with zero compromise on flavor to get there.
Is it a clean-label product?
It is. No preservatives, no artificial anything, no added sugar — just real, recognizable ingredients cooked with olive oil. If you can't pronounce it, it's not in the jar.
